Khalaf Ahmad Al Habtoor, Chairman of the Al Habtoor Group welcomed former Egyptian Prime Minister Ahmad Shafik to his office on Al Wasl Road on Monday September 7, 2015. Shafik was a senior commander in the Egyptian Air Force and served as interim period under President Hosni Mubarak. He also ran for President following the 2011 Egyptian Revolution. He was narrowly lost out in the 2012 election to Mohammed Morsi.
It marks the first meeting between the Al Habtoor Group Chairman and Shafik. They discussed the current economic and political situation in Egypt as well as their mutual interests in sport, particularly tennis.
Al Habtoor invited Shafik to attend the Al Habtoor Tennis Challenge, a women’s only tournament. The event, now in its 18th year, will run from November 9-14 at the Al Habtoor Beach Resort & Spa, Autograph Collection.
Khalaf Ahmad Al Habtoor said, “It was a pleasure to meet Mr. Shafik. I look forward to seeing him at the Al Habtoor Tennis Challenge. It is one of the highlights of the year. It gathers tennis players from all over the world, and has kick-started the careers of many well-known female players.”
“Dubai has now established itself as a destination that encourages and supports many sports, from tennis to polo.”
